PLYMOUTH, Minn. – The National Latino Peace Officers Association (NLPOA), a leading association of Latino police officers, today announced its endorsement of Jim Schultz for Minnesota Attorney General, citing the Republican nominee’s willingness to walk “side-by-side with law enforcement.”
“I am grateful to the Latino Peace Officers Association for placing their trust and confidence in me to restore public safety in Minnesota,” said Schultz. “Keith Ellison’s reckless efforts to defund the police amid skyrocketing crime have disproportionately hurt minority communities across Minnesota. Minnesotans deserve an Attorney General who will partner with public safety leaders to keep our communities safe. Minnesotans are fed up with Keith Ellison’s dangerous tenure as Attorney General and are ready for an Attorney General who will defend police, not defund them.”
Last week, a new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll showed Schultz leading Ellison by seven points and having a 54-point advantage over Ellison on the issue of crime and public safety.
Founded in the early 1970’s, NLPOA has become one of the largest Latino Officer Associations in America. Their mission is to promote equality and professionalism in law enforcement. In their endorsement of Schultz, the National Latino Peace Officers Association joins 42 county public safety officials (including 41 county sheriffs), former U.S. Attorney Thomas B. Heffelfinger, and other law enforcement groups, including the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, the National Troopers Coalition, the Ramsey County Deputies’ Federation, and the Saint Paul Police Federation.
